Update XIII
Back To Where I Belong... I'll be honest, I've struggled with this one a bit. Had a lot of studio sessions just playing around with ideas and nothing seemed to come together. My thought process went something like this :
Well, it's at 180BPM, or we half speed it and put it at 90 BPM. What genres can we do at either of those speeds? Well, we've already done hardcore/gabber with "Voices", which also ran at 180, so we can't do that again. Maybe we could do hip hop? We could get some beats together but the vox is all singing and growling - not very hip hoppy. I'd love to do some old skool breakbeat hardcore, I have got a sample pack from the legendary Kniteforce records. But that would really sound quite similar to Devoid on the last remix album, and the last thing I want to do is a carbon copy of that album.
So it looks like we're moving into Trip Hop territory. Whilst trying out these ideas, I've mashed up some acoustic guitars, and put the singing vocals through a vocoder (amongst other things), that transform a couple of lines into whispering. Which kind of works well when it's all put together. Got some huge sidechain compressors on drum cymbals/instruments which give a great feeling of movement, so I think I'm gonna stick with this and develop the idea. It would also sit well in the album before the main chillout song.
I will try and resist the urge to put some crazy double timed hardcore breakbeat drums at the end :)
