Update X
Break The Skies is pretty much done. Just as I thought - chillout, probably the most minimal tune I've done, with couple of vocal fx thrown in at the end. I have a feeling that either the beginning or end will change when I start putting the entire album together so I've kind of left them open for the minute.
So, reviewing what we have so far. Trance, Drum n Bass, Hard Trance, Gabba, Ballad & Chillout. Which means I think it's time for a plodder. This may need some explanation... Mostly all the tunes so far have been proper remixes - vocals chopped up, arrangements changed, genres vastly different from the originals. But what I think we now need is a tune which almost follows the same structure as the original. Just with replacing the drums/bass/synths for the VSTi's/samples library I have crafted over the years.
Out of what is left, it looks like the best candidate for the plodder (maybe the first plodder) is Under The Eagle. We'll have the first two chorus/bridge/verses, break everything down, then come up with a new riff for the tune and bring everything back in. It runs at, wait for it, 220.1 BPM. Yes, with the 0.1. So the remix will be half that, at 110.05. Two things come to mind.
- At what point were Silent Descent sitting in the studio thinking, "Nope 220 is not fast enough, but 220.2 is too fast. We'll have to settle with 220.1"???
- This completely negates my argument for the last song not fitting into any electronic genre when it runs at 235 aka 117.5. Oh well, what's done is done. Once the album is complete we can see if we need to re-do any tunes...
